Bison Defeat St. Thomas in Battle of Summit League Unbeatens, 68-65

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's basketball team remained unbeaten in Summit League play, beating preseason league favorite St. Thomas 68-65 on Saturday afternoon inside the Scheels Center.

NDSU improved to 16-5 overall and 6-0 in The Summit League – the first 6-0 start to league play since 2012-13 for the Bison. St. Thomas fell to 15-5 and 4-1 in the league, snapping a nine-game win streak.

Trevian Carson led NDSU with 16 points and three steals. Treyson Anderson finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, and Emil Skyttä scored a season-high 11 points for the Bison.

NDSU led for just under 30 of the game's 40 minutes. The contest was tied 50-50 midway through the second half when the Bison strung together an 11-2 run that featured seven points in the paint from Skyttä. NDSU held the Tommies scoreless for four and a half minutes to fuel the run.

When St. Thomas pulled within five at 63-58 with less than three minutes to play, Carson drilled a three-pointer to put the Bison up eight. After the Tommies scored five straight to make it 66-63, Damari Wheeler-Thomas scored a driving layup through contact with 27 seconds left to seal the victory for NDSU.

The Bison forced 15 turnovers and scored 21 points off turnovers. Carson hit four three-pointers, and Andy Stefonowicz made three.

The first-place Bison will go on the road to take on Denver on Jan. 22 and Oral Roberts on Jan. 24 next week.
