NDSU Women’s Basketball Downs South Dakota for 16th Straight Win

FARGO, N.D. – Four Bison reached double figures in scoring as the North Dakota State women's basketball team downed South Dakota, 79-56, on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,004 fans inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Bison (18-2, 7-0 Summit) extended their win streak to 16 games and improved to 7-0 in Summit League play. South Dakota drops to 15-6 (5-2 Summit) with the loss.

Avery Koenen set the pace with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and hauled in a game-best 10 rebounds. It marked her seventh straight and 15th overall double-double this season. Marisa Frost totaled 14 points and Jocelyn Schiller added in 11 points with five rebounds. Karrington Asp also reached double digits in scoring with 13 points and four rebounds coming off the bench.

As a team, the Bison shot 46.0 percent (29-63) from the field and scored 44 points in the paint. NDSU also grabbed 42 rebounds with five different players producing at least five.

After trading points throughout the first frame, NDSU slowly opened up a 14-point advantage in the second quarter after a 7-2 run capped off by a triple from Molly Lenz to make the score 30-16 at the 3:26 mark. The Coyotes responded to close the half on an 8-3 run after Angelina Robles drained a triple as time expired to trim the deficit to single digits at the break, 33-24.

The Bison used a key 9-2 run finished off by a layup and free throw from Frost to increase the edge back into double digits, 42-27, with 6:45 to play in the third. NDSU, who never trailed on the contest, then went on to grow its largest lead of the game, 75-44, with a jumper from Asp with 5:38 remaining. The Bison closed out the remaining time to pick up the 79-56 win.

NDSU will continue its homestand hosting Denver on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
