DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – North Dakota State softball picked up a 7-1 win over Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at Sunnyland Park to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Madison Wihlm tossed a complete game for her third victory of the season, allowing one unearned run, while striking out six Wildcat batters.
Amai Hanta led the Bison offense with two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Hanta scored the opening run of the game in the first after working a leadoff walk and eventually scoring on a wild pitch.
Savannah Henzler doubled the Bison advantage in the second with an RBI double to right center, scoring
Lileigh Nieto. Hanta then grounded out two batters later, bringing in Henzler for her first RBI.
Star Cortez also had two hits on the night, including an RBI triple later in the second inning, scoring
Macy Fry to make it 4-0.
After Bethune-Cookman capitalized on an error to score their only run in the third, NDSU answered back with three runs in the fourth. Fry stole second to allow
Mya Boos to steal home on the throw for the first run. Fry then scored on an RBI double from Hanta to left.
Bella Dean capped the scoring with an RBI groundout to bring in Hanta.
NDSU will be back in action on Thursday with the opening game of the Hatter Classic, taking on host Stetson at 5 p.m. CT in DeLand, Florida.
