DELAND, Fla. – North Dakota State softball wrapped up the Hatter Classic on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Maine at Patricia Wilson Field.
The Bison took the lead in the second inning, loading the bases for
Star Cortez, who picked up an RBI with a walk. NDSU would load the bases again in the third, with
Jasmyn Yessian hitting an RBI single to double the lead.
In the fourth inning, the Bison loaded the bases for a third time, capitalizing on a pair of Maine errors.
Mya Boos brought in the first run of the inning with a hit by pitch, before
Lileigh Nieto hit an RBI single to put NDSU in front 4-0.
After Maine scored a run in the bottom of the fourth,
Macy Fry restored a four-run lead for the Bison with her first career home run, hitting a solo shot over the fence in right center. The Bison would extend the lead, loading the bases again before Boos picked up her second RBI with a walk.
In the circle,
Jocelyn McClary allowed one run in seven innings of work, striking out four with just one walk allowed.
Fry, Nieto and
Zoe King each finished with two hits each. King and Cortez also had two walks each.
The Bison will return to action on Friday with the first day of the Gopher Indoor Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Bison will take on Long Island and Central Michigan on the opening day.
