NDSU Baseball Falls in Series Opener at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The North Dakota State baseball team fell short in the series opener at Missouri, 11-5, on Friday night at Taylor Stadium.

After Missouri (8-2) plated seven unanswered runs over the first four innings, Colten Becker sparked the Bison (1-8) with an RBI single in the sixth inning before Dante Smith scored on an error to make the score 7-2 in the sixth. NDSU then used an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Cal Jones in the seventh inning to cut the deficit down to 7-3. However, the Tigers responded with four runs on four hits in the seventh to push the lead to 11-3 with a Jase Woita single. Bennett Freiter made one final push for the Bison with a two-run double in the eighth, but NDSU went on to drop the contest, 11-5.

NDSU totaled six hits as a team with Freiter going 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBI.

Parker Puetz (0-2) made the start with four strikeouts over 3.2 innings, while Garrett Shupe provided 3.0 innings of relief with two strikeouts. Connor McCaleb closed out the final 1.1 innings with one strikeout.

NDSU will conclude its series at Missouri tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The second game will begin 45 minutes after the completion of game one.
