NDSU Baseball Falls in Doubleheader at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Omaha, 6-2, and, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field.

In game two, the two teams battled through six scoreless innings to start the contest. After an Omaha (7-10, 3-0 Summit) double and walk in the opening frame, Jonah Walker sent the next 16 batters down in order until a walk in the bottom half of the sixth frame. The Mavericks then broke through in the seventh inning after Hayden Lewis sent a two RBI single through the left side to grab the 2-0 lead. NDSU (2-17, 0-3 Summit) went on to leave a runner stranded in each of the next two frames and dropped the series finale, 2-0.

Walker (0-1) posted four strikeouts with three walks and two runs over 6.0 innings in the start. Hudson Hart closed out the final 2.0 frames with two strikeouts.

Diego Trujillo recorded two hits on four appearances, while Noah Gordon added one hit with one walk.

In game one, Evan Gustafson broke through for the Bison in the third frame after he lifted a two-run home run to make the score 2-0. Omaha cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the fifth after Chase Diggins connected on an RBI single. The Mavericks then carried the momentum into the sixth after Tyler Bishop delivered an RBI single and Lewis blasted a three RBI double to steal the lead, 5-2. Henry Zipay added insurance in the eighth with another RBI single to seal the 6-2 win.

The Bison totaled six hits as a team with Trujillo going 2-of-4 at the plate.

Brayden Marks (1-3) made the start going 5.0 innings with one strikeout. Sheamus Ryan finished the final 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.

NDSU will be back in action on Tuesday at Minnesota. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., at U.S. Bank Stadium.
