OMAHA, Neb. – North Dakota State softball fell to Omaha 17-7 in the Summit League series finale on Sunday at Connie Claussen Field.
Savannah Henzler hit her first home run of the season to give NDSU an early 2-0 lead in the first, but Omaha answered back with a 10-run inning, capitalizing on a Bison error to score six unearned runs in the bottom of the first and the Bison were unable to recover.
The Mavericks would add four more runs in the third, before
Jessica Delatorre added her first home run of the season with another two-run shot in the fourth inning.
Star Cortez then added an RBI single later in the inning.
However, Omaha would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Zoe King added an RBI single in the fifth and NDSU scored another run on an error, but were unable to cut into the deficit any further, with the run rule triggered.
Delatorre led the Bison in hits, going 3-for-3 on the day with two RBI and a run scored.
Amai Hanta finished with two hits, including a triple, and added an RBI and run scored.
Lileigh Nieto had two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored.
The Bison will return to action on Friday, as NDSU jumps back into non-conference play one final time this season with two games at No. 4/6 Alabama. NDSU will take on the Crimson Tide in a single game Friday at 6 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend Saturday at 1 p.m.
