FARGO, N.D. – Columbia opened up a 34-point lead in the first half and never looked back in the 86-57 win over the North Dakota State women's basketball team in the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) on Sunday afternoon inside the Scheels Center at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
The Bison finish the season with a 29-5 overall record, which is the most wins in the NDSU Division I era and most since the 1995-96 season. NDSU also played in a postseason tournament for the fourth straight season and has won at least one game in each of the last three appearances.
Columbia (22-8) will advance to face the winner of Kansas State and California in the quarterfinal round of the WBIT on Thursday.
Avery Koenen led the way with a team-best 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds and one assist.
Karrington Asp also reached double figures with 11 points and two rebounds off the bench.
As a team, the Bison shot 34.0 percent (17-50) from the field and 74.1 percent (20-27) from the free throw line. NDSU also netted 26 points in the paint and the bench contributed 17 points.
