SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The top-seeded North Dakota State women's basketball team cruised past eighth-seeded Omaha, 87-37, in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League Tournament on Thursday afternoon at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in front of 6,176 fans.
With the win, the Bison (27-3, 15-1 Summit) advance to the semifinal round against the winner of fourth-seeded Oral Roberts and fifth-seeded St. Thomas on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
Marisa Frost led the way for NDSU with a game-high 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from three. It marked the second-most points by a Bison player in the Summit League Tournament behind Brooke LeMar, who netted 29 points against Oral Roberts in 2015.
Avery Koenen logged 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds. The Montevideo, Minn., native also increased her season points total to 581, which is the most in the NDSU Division I era and seventh overall in Bison history.
Karrington Asp, who made her first career start, added in 11 points with eight rebounds and
Abby Graham provided 10 points off the bench.
As a team, the Bison shot 50.8 percent (33-65) and 75.0 percent (15-20) from the free throw line with seven players in the scoring column. NDSU tallied 87 total points and buried 33 field goals, which were the most by a Bison team in Summit League Tournament history.
After opening up a 19-11 lead after the first quarter, NDSU pushed its lead to into double digits in the second frame with seven straight points, including five from Frost to make the score, 28-13, at the 5:00 mark. The Bison, who never trailed in the contest, led by double digits the rest of the way to go on to secure the 87-37 victory.
