NDSU Baseball Drops Series Finale at Northern Colorado, 10-5

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado scored six runs in the second inning to top the North Dakota State baseball team in the series finale, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field.

Northern Colorado (8-29, 6-8 Summit) started off fast plating six runs on five hits in the second inning to build a 6-0 advantage after Wilson Kieffer delivered an RBI single. Ethan Swaby then provided two scoreless frames with three strikeouts before Tommy Simon used a two RBI double in the fifth to clear the bases and make the score 6-2. Evan Gustafson closed the fifth inning for NDSU (5-22, 2-7 Summit) with another RBI double to left field to trim the deficit to 6-3.

Following a scoreless sixth frame, Colten Becker launched a two-run home run to left field in the seventh to pull the Bison back within one, 6-5. However, Northern Colorado responded with an RBI sacrifice fly from Ethan Fillinger in the seventh and then Brandon Sanchez sealed the 10-5 win with a three-run home run to center field in the eighth.

The Bison posted seven hits as a team with Becker totaling a season-best three hits on five appearances with two RBI and one run.

Jonah Walker (0-3) made the start tossing one strikeout over 1.2 innings. Ethan Swaby provided a season-best 2.0 innings of relief with three strikeouts, while Hudson Hart and Braden Gluth each added one strikeout apiece.

NDSU will be back in action hosting Omaha on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
