Jake Angier is in his third season as an assistant baseball coach at North Dakota State. He serves a full-time role as the Bison pitching coach.
Angier, 27, spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State, where he played for the Jackrabbits in 2006 and 2007 before moving into the coaching ranks as a student assistant.
Angier helped develop two major league draft picks at SDSU - Caleb Thielbar in the 18th round in 2009, and Blake Treinen in the 23rd round in 2010. He also coached All-America reliever Trever Vermeulen.
In his first year at NDSU, Angier led a Bison pitching staff that dropped its team ERA by almost a full run from 2010 and held opposing hitters to a Division I program-best .285 batting average.
NDSU pitchers logged a school-record 509 innings last season, and the 3.38 ERA was the team's best in 37 seasons dating back to 1975. The Bison held opponents to a .261 batting average.
A native of Bellevue, Wash., Angier began his collegiate playing career at Big Bend Community College, where he saved six games as a sophomore. At SDSU, he had a 2-1 record in 34 appearances over two seasons.
Angier graduated from South Dakota State in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and earned a master's degree in sports pedagogy from South Dakota State in May 2010.
He and his wife, Sheena, reside in West Fargo.
