Max Casper

    Volunteer Assistant
Max Casper returned to North Dakota State for his second stint as a volunteer assistant for the Bison baseball program in 2019. He held the position for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

A native of Circle Pines, Minn., Casper is North Dakota State's all-time leader in sacrifice hits (33) and defensive assists (623), and is tied with former Bison standout outfielder Tim Colwell for most career starts (208).

Casper started 169 straight games in his three-plus years on the infield for the Bison, compiling a .292 career batting average with 205 hits, 16 doubles, five triples, 81 RBI and 33 walks.

After leaving NDSU, he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he helped the Vikings claim the NCAA Division II national championship in 2018. Augustana compiled an impressive 52-9 overall record and captured both the NCAA Division II Central Regional and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament titles.

The Vikings won 37 games in his first season, including 29 conference games to go along with two wins in the 2017 NSIC tournament.

Casper spent six seasons playing independent professional baseball with the American Association's Sioux Falls Pheasants and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the Canadian-American Association's New Jersey Jackals, and the Frontier League's Joliet Slammers and Lake Erie Crushers. He also played baseball in Australia in the winter of 2013.

He graduated from North Dakota State in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation leadership and a minor in public relations and advertising. He received his master's degree in sport administration and leadership from Augustana in 2018.
