Biography

2007 SEASON (JUNIOR): Started 46 of 47 games...Hit .257 and finished second on the team in doubles (10), homers (5), RBIs (37)...Also second on the team in slugging (.431) but his 49 strikeouts set a single-season school record...Starred in the 17-6 win over Chicago State (5/25) at the Division I independent tournament, hitting 3-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and four runs scored...Had both game-winning hits in a 6-5, 3-2 doubleheader sweep of South Dakota State (5/6)...Division I independent Student-Athlete of the Year...Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 University Division first team...2006 SEASON (HARDSHIP): Sat out the season to recover from a knee injury suffered during the 2005 Bison football season...2005 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): Started all 53 games, splitting time at catcher and first base...His .275 batting average was second on the team among regular starters...Led the Bison in doubles (15) and homers (3) and was second in RBIs (28) and triples (3)...Hit 3-for-5 with the bases loaded and was .325 with runners on and two outs...Stole four bases in five tries...Sure-handed fielder who made only eight errors in 329 chances (.976)...His 329 total chances and 290 putouts were both fourth highest in a single season in school history...Named to the Division I independent baseball all-academic team...2004 SEASON (FRESHMAN): Batted .297 with 31 RBIs while starting all 48 games played...The Bison were 10-2 with him hitting cleanup...Had 11 multi-hit games including four 3-hit games...Hit safely in all three North Central Conference tournament games including a 3-for-4 effort with two RBIs against North Dakota in the semifinal...2003 SEASON (REDSHIRT): Sat out the season with a knee injury suffered during the 2002 Bison football season...COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Four-year letterman on the football field at NDSU...All-Great West Football Conference second team pick in 2005...Two-time academic all-conference and all-district selection...Second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American®...Semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, widely known as the "Academic Heisman" award...Played 10 of 11 games in 2005, finishing as the team’s third leading tackler with 63 stops...Had two interceptions, three sacks and two forced fumbles...Played in all 11 games as a junior in 2004, finishing as the fifth leading tackler on the team with 53 stops including 25 solo tackles...Started 4 of 9 games as a sophomore when he charted 36 tackles including two QB sacks...Played in five games as a true freshman in 2002 before suffering a knee injury that kept him out of all spring activity in 2003...HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at Windom Area High School where he was a three-time team MVP and team captain, two-time conference MVP, four-time all-conference, and two-time all-state selection...Hit .550 with eight home runs as a senior and played in the Minnesota Lions All-Star game...Hit .629 as a junior with seven home runs...Catcher, pitcher and outfielder in HS...Also played football where he was a two-time first team all-conference performer and a two-time all-area selection...Two-time conference MVP, two-time team captain...Played running back and linebacker...Ran for 2,836 yards and 51 touchdowns on offense and had 268 tackles on defense plus five interceptions including one for a TD...PERSONAL: Already has a history degree from NDSU and is enrolled in the graduate school...Plans to pursue a doctorate in history...Workes as editorial assistant for Agricultural History journal...Son of Thomas and Sherri Zimmerman of Windom...Second of four boys in the family, which includes brothers Daric, Brock and Drew.
