2013 SEASON (REDSHIRT): Sat out the season as a redshirt in the Bison program.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-time all-North Suburban Conference tight end and defensive end for Spring Lake Park High School and head coach Jeff Schlieff...Earned St. Paul Pioneer Press all-state honors as a senior...Caught 18 passes for 245 yards and five TDs...Made 75 tackles including 10 sacks...Three-year starter...Member of three conference (2010-12) and 2011 Section 5A championship teams...Spring Lake Park compiled a 23-5 record over career...Center on the basketball court...Spring Lake Park achieved 23-5 record, were ranked 2nd in the state and was the Class 4A, Section 4 runner-up.
 
PERSONAL: Son of Wallace Axelson, Vadnais Heights, Minn., and Christine Axelson, Spring Lake Park, Minn....Father was All-American pitcher for Minnesota State Moorhead...Has one brother, Joe, who spent two years in the NDSU baseball program before transferring to Southwest Minnesota State.
