Minnesota Golf Hall of Famer Larry Murphy serveed as a volunteer assistant coach for the North Dakota State University men’s golf team,  joining head coach Steve Kennedy in January of 2017 and working with the Bison threough the 2024-25 season.

Prior to joining NDSU, Murphy served as the head PGA Golf Professional for 47 years at Moorhead Country Club before retiring in November 2016.

While at Moorhead Country Club, Murphy launched the Fargo-Moorhead Junior Tour and was named professional of the year five times.

In 2015, Murphy was awarded the PGA Horton Smith Award. The award recognizes a professional for outstanding and continuous contributions to golf professional education.

He was inducted into the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.

A native of St. Paul, Minn., Murphy attended the University of Minnesota before becoming an Assistant PGA Professional at St. Cloud Country Club in 1966. He arrived at Moorhead Country Club in 1969.
