Deanne
Stevenson begins
her second season as an assistant coach at North Dakota State University.
Primary responsibilities will involve working directly with the post players, assist
the strength and conditioning of the student-athletes, assist in marketing and
public relations concerning the program, assist sports information, and assist
in scouting of opponents and recruitment.
Stevenson was named assistant women's basketball coach in October 2010. She spent one month as director of operations
before stepping into a vacancy on the staff.
"Deanne has a year under belt coaching on the floor and working with our Bigs. We're thrilled with the development of Janae (Burich) and Miki (Stephenson) over this past spring, summer and fall. She too will take on a bigger role in game scout this season," said NDSU head coach Carolyn DeHoff.
Stevenson was a
former player at the University of Utah when Coach DeHoff served as an
assistant and associate head coach under Elaine Elliott. Stevenson was a
member of the 2006 NCAA Elite Eight team that lost to eventual national
champion Maryland. She competed in four NCAA tournaments in her five
years at Utah.
At the conclusion of
Stevenson's sophomore year she was awarded a medical hardship due to a
career-ending injury. She worked 10 hours per week in the women's
basketball office, while also gaining valuable administration and camp
experience. Stevenson did return to the basketball court after
submitting a waiver to the NCAA to restore her eligibility.
Highly-organized,
Stevenson not only competed during the regular basketball season but
also kept up with a demanding class and internship schedule. She was a
marketing intern for the Utah athletic department and USA Team Handball.
Stevenson also
worked game management with the Salt Lake Bees, and conducted interviews
and wrote feature stories for Utah's athletic web page.
Deanne and her
husband, Jeff, reside in Fargo. She earned a bachelor's degree in mass
communication in May 2008 and another bachelor's degree in parks,
recreation and tourism in August 2009.
Stevenson
graduated from Alta High School in Sandy, Utah. She was named the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune 5A MVP in 2004 and also voted the school's
Female Athlete of the Year in 2004.
