Casie Witte joined the North Dakota State track & field program as an assistant coach in August 2018. Witte came to the Bison from the University of Nebraska, where she had served as a volunteer assistant coach since 2008 specializing in the combined events and javelin.
In her first season with the Bison in 2019, Witte coached NDSU to a sweep of all four Summit League multi-events titles -- Macy Denzer in the women's pentathlon, Ryan Enerson in the men's heptathlon, Amanda Levin in the women's heptathlon, and Tony Ukkelberg in the men's decathlon. The Bison men finished 1-2-3 in the decathlon at the Summit League Outdoor Championships, and the NDSU women took 1st, 3rd and 4th in the heptathlon.
Levin set the NDSU heptathlon school record with 5,695 points in 2019 and earned honorable mention All-America status with a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
In her time at Nebraska, Witte coached Husker men and women to 15 All-America honors and 20 conference championships.
“I am excited to be a part of the Bison track & field program, working with great staff and student-athletes,” Witte said upon her hire. “It’s an honor to join the long tradition of success that has been established at North Dakota State.”
“Casie has proven herself to be a valuable coach at a successful Power 5 program,” said Keller. “Her experience and knowledge of the combined events will definitely have a positive impact on our athletes, and we’re excited to add her to the Bison family.”
Witte coached a number of prized pupils in her time with the Huskers, most recently helping decathlete Cody Walton achieve first-team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2017. Walton set the Nebraska decathlon record a 7,937 points, nearly reaching the 8,000-point barrier.
Witte helped guide freshman Maggie Malone to second-team All-America accolades in the javelin at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Early in her career at Nebraska, Witte helped coach multi-event athlete Bjorn Barrefors to two conference titles and six All-America honors. She was also instrumental in the development of Chantae McMillan, an NCAA runner-up in the heptathlon who went on to represent the United States in the 2012 London Olympics.
In 2009, four of Witte’s Husker athletes combined to earn five All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the combined events, Megan Wheatley and McMillan earned All-America accolades in the pentathlon, while Barrefors broke the school record and earned All-America honors in the heptathlon. McMillan added All-America accolades in the women’s long jump as well.
Witte earned her Level I Coaching Education Certification during the summer of 2008 and her Level II Certification in the combined events during the summer of 2009.
A team co-captain for the Nebraska women in 2007, Witte made two trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships as an athlete, competing in the high jump in 2005 and the heptathlon in 2007. The Lincoln, Neb., native owns a heptathlon personal-best score of 5,347 points, also placing at the Big 12 Championships in the javelin and high jump during her career.
