Enjoyed a remarkable athletic career at the prep, collegiate and armed services levels. Culminated NDSU football career by being selected to the Little All-America first team. The fullback was honorable mention all-league in 1957, and a first-team pick as a junior and senior. Three-year letterwinner for the Bison, serving as co-captain in 1958 and 1959. Entered the Army in 1953 and was a linebacker and punter for the 4th Infantry Division (Frankfurt, Germany) that won the all-service European football title in 1955. Returned to the Army in 1960 and made it his career. He was awarded the purple heart among other medals for service in Vietnam.
