A member of the Fargo Forum newspaper staff for more than 40 years and on the sports desk for 38 years, Kolpack served as a sportswriter, sports editor and sports columnist over an illustrious career. He covered Bison football from 1967-1989 (23 years), chronicling the Bison's assent to six of eight national grid championships. He wrote a book in 1992 entitled Bison Football, Three Decades of Excellence. He was active in covering the full range of Bison athletics including NCAA titles in women’s basketball and wrestling. He was inducted into the North Central Conference and North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Halls of Fame in 1990. Two of his three sons -- Dave and Jeff -- are also sportswriters. Jeff is currently the Bison beat writer for The Forum.
