Bison Battle Back From Two-Game Deficit to Defeat Winnipeg in Five

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State battled back from a two-game deficit to defeat the University of Winnipeg 3-2 in exhibition women's college volleyball Friday, Oct. 15, before a crowd of 721 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.  The Bison lost 30-18, 30-28 before bouncing back with 30-20, 31-29 and 15-12 wins.

The serving game was costly for North Dakota State in the opening two sets, which saw the Bison commit eight service errors and surrender five aces.  Five of those Bison serving errors came in the second game alone, but NDSU still built a 22-15 lead.  It would not last, however.

Winnipeg put together six straight points on three Aynsley Laluk aces, a Bison attacking error and a Jocelyne Roy kill to cut the margin to 22-21.  NDSU regained late leads of 25-24 and 28-27 before a Laluk kill, a Kristin Brisebois solo block and another Bison attacking error gave the Wesmen a 2-0 advantage.

The Bison avoided a four-game loss with a late rally in the fourth set, which saw 14 tie scores and nine lead changes.  NDSU broke a 29-all tie with kills from Lindsay Shockman and Kate Haider to win it.

Shockman was the steady hand for North Dakota State.  She connected for 14 kills on 30 attempts and hit a team-high .267 in the match.  The Bison rebounded to outhit Winnipeg by a .167 to .118 margin.

Sheila Parrish recorded match-high totals of 19 kills and 24 digs.  She was one of four Bison to finish with double-digit kills.  Sheri Swanson had 11 kills and a match-high seven blocks, and Haider collected 10 kills.

Winnipeg's Brisebois tied Swanson with seven total blocks, including three solos.

NDSU's Chloe Quirk made 14 digs and finished with nine kills off the bench.  Setter Emily Luensmann collected 60 assists while making nine digs and four blocks.

The Bison will play their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 16, against the NDSU alumni team beginning at 5:30 p.m.
