FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision against Southern Illinois to wrap up non-conference play at the Razorback Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Barnhill Arena.
Lauren Jansen logged her second double-double in the last three matches with a match-best 16 kills and 12 digs, while
Cathy Porter also added a double-double with a team-high 18 assists and 10 digs.
Baily Randall contributed 13 kills with nine digs, while
Emma Tallman tallied a career-best 12 kills of her own.
Both teams worked through five tie scores in the opening set until the Bison (6-4) assembled a 3-0 run to grab a 16-12 advantage after an attack error. NDSU then extended its lead to 22-18 with a block from Tallman and
Arianna Blohm to force a Southern Illinois (5-7) timeout. NDSU went on to win the first set, 25-19.
The two teams continued to trade points until the Salukis assembled seven unanswered points to open up a 19-10 advantage in the second set. Southern Illinois then stretched its lead into double digits, 22-11, with an ace from Cecilia Bulmahn. The Salukis closed out the frame, 25-13.
The Bison and the Salukis went back and forth in the third set that saw 10 tie scores and four lead changes. NDSU was able to grab a late 21-19 advantage after
Ally Barth connected on a kill. Southern Illinois answered to lock the contest, 22-22, with a kill from Eva Krakwoski. The Salukis then closed the set on a 3-1 run to win the frame, 25-23.
NDSU jumped out to a 14-13 lead in the fourth set following a kill from Tallman. The two teams then battled to lock the contest, 22-22, after Tallman delivered another kill. The Salukis answered to close the frame on a 4-2 run to win the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.
NDSU will be back in action hosting North Dakota on Saturday to open Summit League play. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
