Box Score GREEN BAY, Wis.--Adam Dobmeier scored a team-high 15 points and was one of three North Dakota State players to score in double figures, but it was not enough as Wisconsin-Green Bay defeated the Bison 72-66 in the first round of the Oneida Bingo & Casino Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 29, before a crowd of 4,184 at the Resch Center.
Dobmeier was 5-for-11 overall and 5-for-9 from behind the 3-point arc to lead the Bison in scoring. He made five rebounds and an assist.
Myron Green added 14 points, including 5 of 6 free throws, and David Erbes scored 12 points for the Herd on 6-of-12 shooting.
North Dakota State led 36-35 at halftime behind 12 points from Dobmeier, and the Bison extended their lead to six early in the second half on a Green layup before the Phoenix went on an 8-0 run.
Josh Lawrence put Green Bay ahead 43-41 with 15:51 to play. An Andy Kelchen bucket and two Kelchen foul shots put the Bison ahead 45-43, but Lawrence struck again with a 3-pointer that put the Phoenix ahead for good.
Lawrence finished with a game-high 18 points for Green Bay (6-3), and Phoenix guards Brandon Morris and Javier Mendiburu scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. Mendiburu made nine assists, three blocks and five rebounds in an all-around standout game.
Morris had a game-high seven rebounds and Erbes had six boards to lead the Bison as North Dakota State outrebounded the Phoenix by a 34-29 margin.
NDSU (4-7) will play Rider University (4-5) in the consolation final Thursday, Dec. 30, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Resch Center.
Rider lost 68-57 to Hartford in Wednesday's opener despite the 16 points and 11 rebounds of 7-foot, 245-pound center Steve Castleberry, who was 6-for-14 from the field and got to the foul line four times, making all four free throws.
