Box Score FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State survived five Minnesota State-Moorhead game points and rolled up a school-record 41 points in the fourth set Wednesday, Sept. 29, en route to a 3-1 victory against the nationally ranked Dragons before a crowd of 1,242 fans at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
The Bison won 29-31, 30-26, 30-17, 41-39 to hand MSU-Moorhead, the 21st-ranked team in Division II, it's first loss of the season (16-1). NDSU upped its record to 4-12.
North Dakota State was down 25-20 in the fourth set before tying the match at 25 and beginning a seesaw battle to the end. It was 39-all when NDSU's Lindsay Shockman gave the Bison the lead with a kill, and an MSUM ball-handling error clinched the game and match.
Bison outside hitter Sheila Parrish notched the first 20-20 effort for North Dakota State this season. She had a match- and career-high 26 kills and tied teammate Kari Fagnan for match-high honors with 21 digs.
North Dakota State hit .222 as a team but was most impressive at the net. The Bison put up 17 total team blocks including three solo stops by 6-foot sophomore Chloe Quirk. The solos were the first three of her career. She also had four block assists. Shockman made eight block assists and Kate Haider added a season-high six.
Bison setter Emily Luensmann recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 59 assists and 10 digs.
MSU-Moorhead got 17 kills from Sigourney Schaffer and 10 apiece from Becky Anderson, Jesseca White and Chrissy Jacobs. White was the go-to weapon in the fourth set, collecting all 10 kills in that frame on 23 attempts.
North Dakota State's previous single-game points record was 39, which was set in a 41-39 loss to Northern Colorado on the road during the 2003 season. The crowd of 1,242 was the seventh largest in arena history.
NDSU is off until Oct. 8 and 9, when the Bison play host to Northern Colorado and South Dakota State.
