Box Score FARGO, N.D.--Minnesota State-Moorhead snapped a 32-match winless streak against North Dakota State in college women's volleyball with a 30-26, 30-14, 21-30, 30-22 victory over the Bison on Tuesday, Oct. 11, before a crowd of 842 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
MSU-Moorhead, ranked 23rd in the latest Division II coaches poll, beat NDSU for the first time since the 1978 season and improved to 17-3 on the year.
The Dragons were nearly unstoppable in taking game two, connecting for 21 kills in 39 attacks with only one error. Sigourney Schaffer had six kills in the game and finished the night with a match-high 19 kills.
North Dakota State (1-22) avoided a three-game sweep with a 30-21 win in the third set. The Bison stormed out to a 9-3 lead and led by as many as 10 five times.
Each team put four players in double-figure kills. Lindsay Shockman-Rogers led the Bison with 14 kills and added two service aces and seven blocks.
Kelly Lopez, Christy Stuewe and Kim Hebl all finished with 10 kills for North Dakota State. Setters Sheila Parrish and Bethany Boelter had 28 and 22 assists, respectively.
MSU-Moorhead setter Julie Vancura posted a double-double with 52 assists and 12 digs. Vancura directed the Dragons to a .236 attack and chipped in three kills of her own.
Becky Anderson had 12 kills, Tina Lensing had 11, and Jesseca White finished with 10.
North Dakota State continues its seven-match home stand against Texas-Pan American at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and against Brandon (Manitoba) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
