NDSU Falls 2-0 in Season Finale at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Ill.?Entering a four game winning streak, the North Dakota State women's soccer team fell to Western Illinois 2-0 in its season finale on Sunday, Oct. 30.

 

From inside the box, Western Illinois' Ashley Koch scored off of a Bess Rapp pass to put WIU up 1-0 at the 30:55 mark. Minutes before the end of the period, Kim Schuneman tacked on another goal with a scoring strike off of a free kick from 40 yards out.

 

Playing with the wind in the second half, NDSU countered with seven shots, but was unable to find the back of the net.        

 

For the match, the Bison outshot the Westerwinds 13-9 and held the advantage in corner kicks 6-4.

 

By recording three saves and upping her season total to 100, Karli Kopietz established a new NDSU single-season record, breaking Kelly Tierney's mark of 98 set in 2002.

 

With the loss, NDSU finished its season with an 11-5-1 record. Western Illinois improved to 9-5-3 on the season and will continue play after qualifying for the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament.
