Unbeaten North Dakota State Women Defeat Minnesota State 73-57 to Extend Win Streak to 23 Games

Box Score

Amanda Krenz scored a game-high 17 points to lead a group of five players in double-figures as unbeaten North Dakota State University defeated Minnesota State University, Mankato 73-57 to extend its winning streak to 23 games in a women's college basketball game played Thursday, Feb. 17, before 1,053 fans at the Bison Sports Arena.

North Dakota State (23-0) scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back to defeat Minnesota State (9-14) for the 38th straight time in the series, a streak that dates back to the 1985-86 season. The Bison remain one of three undefeated teams in NCAA and NAIA men's and women's basketball (University of Illinois men, 26-0, and  St. John Fisher, N.Y. men, 23-0). NDSU is scheduled to host Upper Iowa University (7-17) at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.

Krenz, a 5-foot-9 senior from West Fargo, N.D., hit her first seven shots from the field including three 3-pointers to score 15 first half points to help the Bison pull away from the Mavericks. Krenz finished two points shy of her career-high of 19 points.

Minnesota State pulled to within 21-15 with 10:22 remaining on an Arin Andrews jumper, but NDSU embarked on a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes to double the score at 34-17 on a pair of Kayla Dahlen free throws. North Dakota State led 40-27 at halftime.

North Dakota State led by as many as 20 points in the second half and Minnesota State could only come as close as 11 points midway in the final period. Katie Lorenz was one of the main reasons why the Bison maintained the double-digit advantage, as the crafty 5-8 junior from Langdon, N.D., matched her career-highs with 10 assists and six steals. It was the third time Lorenz reached double-figures in assists and combined with her 12 points, she completed the second "daily double" of her career.

Lacey Johnson finished with 12 points and game-high nine rebounds, while Leah Klabo tallied 12 points and Lisa Bue came off the bench to net 11 points. Hannah Stolba led Minnesota State with 13 points, while Andrews finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

North Dakota State shot 46.7 percent from the field compared to 33.3 percent for the Mavericks. Minnesota State shot 84.2 percent from the foul line, while the Bison hit 81.3 percent from the charity stripe. Both teams finished with 38 rebounds and combined for 44 turnovers.
