Box Score FARGO, N.D.-- With a goal on penalty kick and a save on penalty kick in the first half of play, the North Dakota State women's soccer team improved to 5-1 on the season after a 2-0 victory at home against Wisconsin-Green Bay (3-4-1) on Sunday, Sept. 18.
After a Phoenix foul on Jessica Rodgers from inside the box, senior Carly Christensen put the Bison up 1-0 with a successful strike on a penalty kick in the 8th minute.
Christensen's 17th career goal was her first on the season.
With six seconds remaining in the half, a Bison foul gave the Phoenix a chance to tie the game with a penalty shot of their own only to have Bison goalkeeper Karli Kopietz scoop up Kari Olsen's attempt to close out the first period.
For Kopietz, it was her second consecutive game where she stopped a penalty kick.
"We have asked Karli to come up with a couple of saves per game and she has come up big," NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado said.
Freshman Jestina Orlando added to her team-leading point total (9) with an insurance goal in the 59th minute after an assist from Rodgers.
With the win, the Bison remain undefeated at home this season by outscoring its opponents 13-0 in three matches at the Ellig Sports Complex.
Kopietz recorded a season-high nine saves in her fourth shutout on the year. All five of NDSU's victories have been shutouts.
"It was a good win. This was a team that beat us handily last year. I was proud of the girls and proud of their effort," Cuadrado said.
The Bison return to action with a two games at the Diadora Classic hosted by Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. NDSU faces Valparaiso on Friday, Sept. 23 with a 4:30 p.m. start and Grambling on Sunday, Sept. 25 with a 11 a.m. kickoff.
