Strong First Half Lifts North Dakota State Past UMKC

FARGO, N.D.--Ben Woodside had 22 points and seven assists Tuesday night to lead North Dakota State to an 87-63 victory over UMKC in college men's basketball.

Mike Nelson added 18 points for the Bison (10-8). Andre Smith had 12 points and Brett Winkelman scored 11.

UMKC guard Quinton Day, who was scoreless in the first half, led all scorers with 24 points for the Kangaroos (8-9). He was 8 of 21 from the field with five 3-pointers and five assists.

Tim Blackwell chipped in 10 for UMKC.

The Bison never trailed in the game and led 45-17 at the half.

UMKC shot just 36 percent from the field, compared to 61 percent by North Dakota State.  The Bison hit 72 percent in the first half (18 of 25), including seven 3-pointers.

The Bison outrebounded the Kangaroos 36-26, led by the the career-high seven rebounds of Lorenzo Riley.

North Dakota State plays at Utah Valley State (6-11) on Thursday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. MST at the McKay Center in Orem, Utah.
