Boise State Rallies for 3-2 Win Over North Dakota State

BOISE, Idaho--Boise State rallied for a 30-32, 22-30, 30-23, 30-20, 15-9 win over North Dakota State in college women's volleyball Sunday, Oct. 29.

The Broncos (9-13), trailing two games to none, raced out to a 9-1 lead after intermission and went up by as many as 12 points on three occasions as the momentum of the match turned.

North Dakota State led 6-5 briefly in both the fourth and fifth games, but could not pull away.  Three Boise State kills, a block and a service ace made up a 5-0 run in the deciding game that gave the Broncos a 10-6 lead they wouldn't surrender.

The Bison (14-12) needed some heroic play to escape with the opening-game win after leading by seven points early on. 

Boise State scored five unanswered points to tie the game at 24.  The Broncos led 29-26 before the Bison survived four straight game-point situations with a kill by Christy Stuewe, a block by Stuewe and Chloe Quirk, a service ace by Sheila Parrish and another kill by Stuewe.

A service error made it 30-all before Stuewe and Lindsay Rogers produced back-to-back kills for the 32-30 win.

NDSU went on a 12-2 run midway through the second set to build a 21-9 lead and Boise State got no closer than seven points the rest of the way as the Bison went up 2-0.

Quirk and Rogers both finished with 16 kills for North Dakota State.  Stuewe had 15 kills and hit .407, while Parrish added 14 kills for the Bison, who outhit Boise State .203 to .187.

Setter Mattie Johnson dished out 61 assists and made 17 digs and four blocks for NDSU.

Boise State put up 14 total team blocks to NDSU's 9 1/2, becoming only the seventh team this season to outblock the Bison, who were also outblocked in a 3-1 loss at Utah Valley State on Saturday afternoon.

North Dakota State returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 4, at South Dakota State.  It will be the final road match of the year for NDSU, which hosts the Division I independent tournament Nov. 10-11 to close out the season.

SDSU is 19-9 heading into matches Monday at Montana and Tuesday at Montana State.
