NDSU Triumphant in First United Soccer Conference Match; Defeat Jackrabbits 1-0

Box Score

BROOKINGS, S.D.?The North Dakota State women's soccer team captured its first Division I conference win with a 1-0 victory at South Dakota State on Wednesday, Oct. 4. NDSU improved to 6-5-1 on the season while SDSU dropped to 3-8-1.

With just over one minute left in the first period, Chelsea Body turned on a ball from inside the box and netted her fourth goal and first game-winning goal of the season to lead the Bison in its first United Soccer Conference contest.

Setting up the play after a corner kick by Sarah Panzer, Becky Iwanicki chipped the ball into traffic in front of the net resulting in a scramble between both teams. Body's boot towards the goal was deflected off of a defender and past SDSU goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso at 43:55.

“It's good to get started in the right direction,” NDSU head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “With only three games that determine conference seeding every game is important.”

Lograsso stopped two shots and allowed the single goal while taking the loss. Bison keeper Monica Morgan denied seven shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season, the team's fifth.

“Our defense didn't play as well as it is capable of, but Monica came up big a couple of times when she needed to,” Cuadrado said.

The Bison return to action Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Utah Valley State for their second of three straight United Soccer Conference match. Kickoff in Orem, Utah, is scheduled for 11 a.m. MT at Wolverine Field.
