Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, La.--North Dakota State ended a 17-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Centenary in the second game of a college baseball doubleheader Saturday, March 25. Centenary won the opener 12-2.
North Dakota State (2-18) allowed single runs in the first and second innings before Jake Laber pitched five-plus scoreless innings of relief and the Bison scored three unanswered runs.
Jared Sullivan hit his team-leading fourth double of the year to score Charles Magedanz in the fourth inning, and the Bison went ahead with two runs in the sixth.
Luke Otto led off with a triple and Magedanz followed with a single up the middle to tie the game at 2.
After an intentional walk to Ryan Langlais loaded the bases two batters later, Cory Schwantes drew a base on balls to score Magedanz with his team-leading 11th run of the year.
Laber, who came on in relief of Jay Mitchell with one out in the second inning, struck out five, walked two, and scattered seven singles over 5 2/3 innings to improve his record to 1-4.
Centenary (11-14) left the bases loaded in the third and seventh innings.
Otto and Magedanz each finished the game 2-for-4. Centenary's Tim Ryan was 2-for-3 with a run scored and teammate Justin Huff had two hits.
Ryan was 4-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs in the opener. He belted a two-run homer in Centenary's four-run second inning as the Gentlemen opened a 6-0 lead through three innings.
Huff was 3-for-3 and scored three runs.
Centenary tagged Bison starter Matt Mossey for nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. Mossey dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
Magedanz and Sullivan each hit 2-for-4 in the opener. Sullivan finished the three-game series hitting .583 (7-for-12) with a double, four RBIs and a run scored.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play a three-game series at Northern Iowa next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Panthers swept a four-game series at Centenary in February and are 12-10 with two games scheduled before hosting the Bison.
