Bison Win Fourth Straight By Shutting Out Utah Valley 1-0

Box Score

FARGO, N.D. - Senior Michelle Martinez got North Dakota State on the board in the 11th minute, and the Bison defense kept Utah Valley at bay as NDSU won its fourth straight with a 1-0 victory over the Wolverines at the Ellig Sports Complex.  North Dakota State improves to 9-4-0 on the season.

Martinez received the pass from freshman Quin Ryan, made some moves around a pair of Utah Valley defenders, and fired a shot from the middle of the penalty area past a diving Mallory Schott to put NDSU on top.  The goal was Martinez's fifth of the season, and her third game-winner of the year.

The Wolverines (2-10-1) had some good scoring opportunities as well.  But sophomore goalkeeper Monica Morgan made eight saves in the game, including a pair against Utah Valley forward Jenni Clough in the waning minutes, to preserve the victory for the Bison.  For Morgan, it was her 12th shutout and 21st win of her NDSU career, both the second most all-time at North Dakota State.  Her eight saves brings her season total to 63 and her career total to 145, which ranks third all-time.

The Bison remain tough at the Ellig Sports Complex, improving their home record to 7-1-0 and are 18-2-1 at home since the beginning of the 2005 season.  NDSU improves to 3-0-0 all time against the Wolverines, and head coach Pete Cuadrado moved to within one win of his 50th career victory at North Dakota State.  Cuadrado is 49-30-5 in his five seasons with the Bison.

NDSU will close out its four-game homestand by hosting the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday, Oct. 14.  This is the Highlander's first ever trip to Fargo.  Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
