NDSU Falls to South Dakota State 2-1 in Double Overtime

Box Score

BROOKINGS, S.D. - North Dakota State struck first in its Summit League showdown with rival South Dakota State, but the Jackrabbits would respond with two goals, the second coming with four minutes remaining in the second overtime, to defeat the Bison 2-1.  NDSU drops to 10-5-0 on the season and 2-2-0 in the Summit League.

Wet and windy conditions was the story of the night as neither team was able to settle into a rhythym.  Freshman Quin Ryan continued her hot streak by getting the Bison on the board in the 22nd minute by putting back a rebound past South Dakota State (6-4-3, 4-1-1) goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso.  The goal is Ryan's sixth of the season, which leads NDSU.

It didn't take the Jacks long to respond as Chelsea Goosen got a shot past goalkeeper Monica Morgan in the 29th minute to knot the game up at one.  It would stay that way well into the second overtime, when Goosen's second goal of the night in the 105th minute would prove to be the game-winner, giving SDSU the 2-1 victory and its second straight win over NDSU.

"Considering the conditions, I thought we played pretty well," said head coach Pete Cuadrado.  "We definitely had our chances.  We hit a few crossbars and had a couple of good looks, but it just didn't work out.  (South Dakota State) worked hard and played well."

The loss snaps North Dakota State's five game winning streak.  NDSU will look to regroup when it hosts Western Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Ellig Sports Complex.  The Bison host the Westerwinds on Senior Day, with kick-off set for 1 p.m.
