South Dakota State Starts Strong, Finishes Strong to Defeat NDSU 86-45

FARGO, N.D.--South Dakota State scored 34 points off 22 turnovers and held the Bison to just 25 percent shooting to defeat North Dakota State 86-45 in front of 2,710 spectators at the Bison Sports Arena on Saturday, Feburary 3.

After NDSU's Lisa Bue hit a pair of free throws to open the game, South Dakota State (16-5) went on a 22-5 run to help put the game out of reach early.  North Dakota State (8-10) did go on a 7-2 run to close out the first half but the Jackrabbits still held a 43-23 advantage going into halftime.

South Dakota State came out of the lockerroom where they left off, going on a 10-0 run, and also finished the game with a 16-2 run. 

Four Jackrabbits scored in double figures, led by Megan Vogel's 25 points in just 26 minutes of action.  Vogel went 7-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc.  Jennifer Warkenthien had a double-double for SDSU, recording 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

Offensively, Brenda Slyt led the Bison scoring with 10 points.  Bue tallied nine points and Emily Moran finished with eight.  Jerri Penley led the way defensively with eight rebounds and a game-high four blocks. 

North Dakota State will host IPFW in the second game of a five-game homestand on Thursday, February 8.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at the Bison Sports Arena.
