
North Dakota State Bounces Back With 89-72 Victory Over IPFW

FARGO, N.D.--North Dakota State shot a season-high 58.3 percent from the field and all five starters scored in double-figures to lift the Bison to an 89-72 win over IPFW in a Division I independent women's basketball game played Thursday, Feb. 8, before 736 fans at the Bison Sports Arena.
It was career win No. 649 for NDSU head coach Amy Ruley. Ruley is attempting to become the 11th active Division I women's basketball coach to reach 650 wins.
North Dakota State (9-10) is scheduled to host New Jersey Institute of Technology (3-19) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Bison Sports Arena. South Dakota State defeated NJIT 96-30 on Thursday night.
After making a season-low 25 percent of its field goals against South Dakota State, NDSU hit 51.5 percent from the floor in the first half and connected on 66.7 percent (18-of-27) in the second to finish with the best shooting performance over the past two seasons. IPFW hit 43.3 percent from the field.
The Bison outscored the Mastodons (11-11) in the paint 56-24 on a variety of passing plays inside. IPFW held a 34-32 advantage in rebounds, but committed 20 turnovers compared to NDSU's 13.
Lisa Bue led all scorers with 20 points and received plenty of help. Three NDSU players netted career best scoring efforts in Emily Moran (19), Jenna Lemnus (14) and Amanda Girodat (12). Brenda Slyt tallied 12 points as all five Bison starters scored in double-figures.
Girodat's only miss on the night was a free throw attempt. She hit all four field goal attempts including a pair of three-pointers that led to 10 first half points and helped North Dakota State build a 40-28 halftime lead.
IPFW was led by Tina Moen's career-high 16 points off the bench. Moen hit 6-of-8 from the field and helped to keep the Mastodons close in the first half.. Samantha Edwards finished with 11 points, while Courtney Reed contributed 14 points off the bench.
The 89 points was a season-high for NDSU, topping the previous high of 81 points against Valley City State on Dec. 14.
