South Dakota State Jumps North Dakota State Early in 71-55 Win

Box Score

FARGO, N.D.--South Dakota State took advantage of 14 turnovers and built a 17-point halftime lead in defeating North Dakota State 71-55 in a Summit League women's basketball game Saturday, Jan. 26, played before 3,011 in the Bison Sports Arena.

It was the Jackrabbits fifth straight win over the Bison.

NDSU (4-5 Summit, 9-10) is scheduled to play at IPFW next Saturday, while South Dakota State (7-2 Summit, 14-6) is scheduled to play Oakland.

North Dakota State committed 14 of its 18 turnovers in the first half. SDSU turned the miscues into 15 points in marching to a 35-18 halftime advantage. The 18 points in a half were a season low for the Bison, previously held to 19 points against IUPUI two weeks ago.

Maria Boever and Jennifer Warkenthien both scored 12 points to pace a well-balanced SDSU offense. Andrea Verdegan and Ashlea Muckenhirn each added 10 points.

Hitting from inside and outside, South Dakota State shot 49.1 percent from the field compared to 32.7 percent for NDSU. The Jackrabbits outboarded the Bison 42-30 led by the game-high 12 rebounds from Courtney Grimsrud.

Emily Moran led North Dakota State with 15 points, while Lisa Bue scored 13 of her 14 points in the second half. Bue has scored in double-figures in all 19 games this season.
