FARGO, N.D.-- April Kidd scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to provide a spark as Oakland University defeated North Dakota State 80-67 in a Summit League women's basketball game played before 1,733 spectators Saturday, Jan. 5, in the Bison Sports Arena.
It was the first Summit League women's basketball game played in Fargo.
NDSU (6-7, 1-1 Summit League) is scheduled to host IPFW (4-7, 2-0 Summit League) at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in the Bison Sports Arena. The Mastodons play at South Dakota State (8-5, 1-1 Summit League) on Saturday.
Kidd scored eight points in the first four minutes of the second half as Oakland (10-3, 3-0 Summit League) opened with a 10-3 run to start the second period. Her layup with 16:35 left put the Golden Grizzlies ahead for good at 42-40. The lead grew to seven points several times.
Amanda Girodat's jumper cut the OU lead to 64-60 with 6:17 left, but the Golden Grizzlies closed the game strong with a 16-7 run. Kidd was in the middle of it -- coming up with two key steals and layups, a three-pointer and several free throws -- to keep NDSU at a distance.
Emily Moran came off the bench to lead North Dakota State with 20 points including a 4 of 5 showing from the three-point line. Moran scored 15 of her team-high 20 points in the opening half as the Bison led 37-34 at the intermission.
Lisa Bue scored 16 points and snared a game-high 14 rebounds to record her third "double-double" of the season and fifth of her career. Her 14 rebounds are the most by a NDSU player this season.
NDSU held a 45-42 advantage on the boards, but shot only 32.8 percent from the field compared to 47.1 percent for Oakland.
Bue pushed her career scoring total to 999 points and needs just one more to become the 27th NDSU women's basketball player to reach 1,000 points in a career.
Kidd led a group of five Golden Grizzlies in double-figures as Jessica Pike netted 16 points, and Hanna Reising, Melissa Jeltema and Charlese Greer each added 11 points.
