ELMHURST, Ill.--North Dakota State forward Lisa Bue and Western Illinois guard Gina Hugelier were named The Summit League Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week by the conference office Tuesday, Jan. 7. Bue earned her second straight award.
Bue, a 5-foot-10 senior from Austin, Minn. (Austin H.S.) averaged a "double-double" in North Dakota State's two games last week. She averaged 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Bison went 1-1 in Summit League play, defeating IPFW (87-47) and falling to Oakland (80-67).
In the win over the Mastodons, Bue became the 27th NDSU player to reach 1,000 points in her career and currently has 1,021. She recorded her third and fourth "double-doubles" of the season, grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds vs. OU and has scored in double figures in all 14 games.
Bue is currently second in the Summit League in scoring (20 ppg) and rebounding (10.5 ppg) in conference games. She is also tied for eighth in free throw shooting at 80 percent (12-15).
Hugelier, 5-9 guard from Elmhurst, Ill. (York H.S.) led the Westerwinds to a pair of key league road victories over UMKC (68-54) and Southern Utah (58-39). WIU also dropped a non-league game at Kansas State (68-53) last week.
Hugelier averaged 16.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg in the three games, including a season-high 23 points against the Thunderbirds. She was 15-of-16 from the free throw line and shot 40 percent from behind the arc. She is now 21-of-22 from the line in three Summit League games and Western is a perfect 3-0 in league play and is tied for first place in the standings with Oral Roberts.
North Dakota State (2-2 Summit League, 7-7) is scheduled to play at Western Illinois (3-0 Summit League, 5-9) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in Macomb, Ill., and take on IUPUI (1-2 Summit League, 5-10) at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in Indianapolis.
