Box Score IOWA CITY, IOWA - The North Dakota State soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to Iowa on Sunday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, the Hawkeyes scored three unanswered second half goals. The Bison are now 4-7-2 and Iowa is 6-5-1.
The first half was closely contested with NDSU taking two shots while Iowa had four. Goalie Kalani Bertsch made two saves for the Bison to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime.
After taking three quick shots to open the second half, the Hawkeyes' Alyssa Cosnek scored the first goal in the 60th minute. With Iowa up 1-0, the Bison began to push people forward to try to tie the game. Iowa was able to take advantage of those numbers and scored two more goals off counterattacks to capture a 3-0 win.
"We played pretty well," said head coach Pete Cuadrado. "We had to take some chances toward the end of the game and Iowa made us pay for it. We have to be more dangerous in our attacking opportunities and take advantage of our chances."
Freshman goalie Kalani Bertsch made seven saves in the loss. Nicole Rand, Michelle Gaffaney and Quin Ryan all registered shots on goal for the Bison.
The Bison now return to Fargo for a four-game homestand, beginning with a match against Summit League foe Oral Roberts on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
