Strong Second Half Lifts Bison Past Oral Roberts in League Opener, 83-75

FARGO, N.D.--Ben Woodside had 24 points and eight assists to lead North Dakota State to an 83-75 win over Oral Roberts in the Summit League men's basketball opener for both teams Thursday, Dec. 4, before a crowd of 4,165 at the Bison Sports Arena.

Brett Winkelman scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half and completed his 15th career double-double with 12 rebounds.  He was one of five players to score in double figures for NDSU, which improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Mike Nelson had 15 points and four rebounds, Dejuan Flowers chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench, and Michael Tveidt scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

North Dakota State trailed 30-28 at halftime but started the second half on a 12-0 run to take its biggest lead of the night.  The Bison shot 64 percent from the field in the second half including 5 of 5 at the 3-point line.

Woodside moved into fourth place on the NDSU all-time scoring list.  He passed Steve Saladino (1972-76) and now has 1,655 points in 90 games.

Winkelman passed Ron Waggoner (1966-69) for seventh place on NDSU's all-time rebounding list.  Winkelman has 662 rebounds over 90 career games.

Freshman Dominique Morrison led Oral Roberts with 19 points, Robert Jarvis scored 18, and Marcus Lewis had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.

North Dakota State is scheduled to host Centenary at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.  The Gents are 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the league after a 71-58 loss at South Dakota State on Thursday.
