Winkelman, Bison Turn Back Centenary, 68-53

FARGO, N.D.--Brett Winkelman had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead North Dakota State to a 68-53 win over Centenary in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Dec. 6, before a crowd of 3,192 at the Bison Sports Arena.

Winkelman was 11-for-21 from the field and added three assists and three steals for the Bison, who improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in The Summit League.  Centenary slipped to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.

North Dakota State shot 46 percent from the floor and had three players score in double figures.  Ben Woodside had 18 points and six assists, and Mike Nelson finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.

All nine Bison players into the game grabbed at least two rebounds as NDSU outrebounded Centenary 46-27.

North Dakota State led 33-24 at halftime, but the Bison couldn't shake Centenary until late.

Anthony Gatlin's 3-pointer with 6:06 left in the game brought the Gents within 49-46, but NDSU responded with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.

It was the 16th career double-double for Winkelman, who had games of 39 and 30 points against Centenary last season.

Michael Tveidt had seven points and blocked two shots for NDSU, and Eric Carlson chipped in five points and five rebounds off the Bison bench.

Nick Stallings had 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for Centenary.  Chase Adams finished with 10 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play in the Drake Hy-Vee Classic next weekend.  NDSU will face Stephen F. Austin in the first round at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, and will face either Drake or Georgia Southern on Saturday, Dec. 13.
