Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D.--Ben Woodside scored 20 points and North Dakota State made 8 of 12 free throws down the stretch to defeat South Dakota State 63-60 in Summit League men's basketball Friday, Feb. 22, before a crowd of 3,234 at Frost Arena.
Woodside was 10-for-12 at the line, including a pair of free throws with 26.4 seconds left that made it 61-58 after a Garrett Callahan bucket brought SDSU within one.
NDSU's biggest lead in the game was 51-42 with 6:55 to play. Kai Williams pulled SDSU within 56-51 with a 3-pointer at the 1:07 mark, and a four-point play by teammate Ben Beran pulled the Jackrabbits within 57-55.
Mike Nelson, who was just 3-for-10 from the field, buried an 18-foot jumper from the left corner to make it 59-55 with 37.5 seconds left. Woodside's last two free throws and Brett Winkelman's two foul shots with 9.0 seconds left iced it.
Winkelman finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for North Dakota State. Lucas Moormann had eight of his nine points in the first half, while Nelson and Michael Tveidt each finished with eight points.
SDSU had a 41-35 rebounding advantage, led by Beran's nine rebounds. Beran made all 11 of his free throws and scored 20 points for SDSU.
North Dakota State led 27-22 at halftime despite its worst shooting half of the season. NDSU connected for only seven field goals on 24 attempts for 29 percent, but SDSU was only 6-for-28 (21 percent).
North Dakota State returns home for its final two games next week against Centenary on Thursday and league-leading Oral Roberts on Saturday.
