Woodside Powers Bison Past UMKC in Overtime, 65-60

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--Ben Woodside scored 21 of his team's last 28 points to lead North Dakota State to a 65-60 overtime win at UMKC in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Jan. 17, before a crowd of 1,739 at Municipal Auditorium.

It completed the first Summit League road sweep for North Dakota State, which improved to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in the league.  UMKC slipped to 6-14 overall and 2-5 in the league.

UMKC's Dane Brumagin buried an off-balance 3-pointer with 16.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 58 and the Bison missed a Woodside jumper and Michael Tveidt putback at the buzzer for a chance to win.

All of the overtime scoring was done at the free-throw line.  Bakari Lewis scored UMKC's only two points before the Kangaroos went scoreless in the last 4:29.

North Dakota State was 7-for-8 at the line in overtime, including four by Woodside, who made his last 12 consecutive free throws.

UMKC led 33-23 at intermission and went up by as many as 14 early in the second half.  The Bison went on a 10-2 run inside the 9-minute mark of the second half to pull within 48-47 on a Lucas Moormann putback with 4:54 left.

North Dakota State went ahead for the first time since the opening possession when Woodside hit his only 3-pointer to put the Bison ahead 52-50 at the 3:38 mark.

NDSU's biggest lead in regulation was 56-52 with 2:23 left when Woodside made both ends of a 1-and-1 at the free-throw line.

Woodside finished with 28 points on 6-of-17 shooting and was 15-for-16 at the foul line.  Brett Winkelman had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Moormann finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.

Tveidt finished with seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks, and Mike Nelson chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

NDSU shot a season-low 32.2 percent from the field, including 2-for-15 from the 3-point line.  UMKC shot 35.5 percent.

Latreze Mushatt had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Kangaroos.  Brumagin finished with 10 points.

North Dakota State returns home to face Utah Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.  The Wolverines are 8-7 overall after a 71-64 loss at Houston Baptist on Jan. 13.
