
North Dakota State Buries Utah Valley Early in 98-71 Rout

FARGO, N.D.--Brett Winkelman and Ben Woodside combined for 41 points before halftime as North Dakota State cruised to a 98-71 victory over Utah Valley in college men's basketball Tuesday, Jan. 20, before a crowd of 3,012 at the Bison Sports Arena.
It was the 10th straight home win for North Dakota State, which improved to 13-5 with its fifth straight victory overall. Utah Valley slipped to 8-8.
NDSU made nine of its first 10 shots and built a 61-36 lead by halftime. The Bison made 9 of 12 three-pointers and 18 of 25 free throws in the first half while shooting 65 percent from the floor.
Woodside finished with a game-high 28 points including 4 of 6 from the 3-point arc and 8-for-12 at the foul line. Winkelman shot 9-for-11 from the floor and was 6 of 7 at the line to finish with 26 points.
Mike Nelson and Freddy Coleman each scored 11 points for North Dakota State.
Utah Valley's Ryan Toolson scored 27 points, Tyray Petty added 14 and Justin Baker had 10.
North Dakota State returns to Summit League action at South Dakota State on Friday, Jan. 23. Game time is 7 p.m. at Frost Arena in Brookings.
NDSU is 7-1 in the league with a half-game lead over Oral Roberts. SDSU is 8-12 overall and alone in seventh place with a 3-5 league record.
