Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--The NCAA Division I FCS' leading rusher Pat Paschall ran 16 times for 129 yards and a career-high four touchdowns and North Dakota State rolled up 294 yards on the ground as the Bison defeated Indiana State 56-17 in a Missouri Valley Football Conference football game played before 2,878 fans in Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 14.
North Dakota State (3-7, 2-5 Valley Football) is scheduled to close out the regular season by hosting Youngstown State (5-5, 3-4 Valley Football) at 1:07 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Fargodome. The game will be televised on the North Dakota NBC Network. Youngstown State defeated Illinois State 30-18 on Saturday.
The Bison scored on five straight possessions including the final two of the first half to take a 28-17 lead and then three of four drives in the second half. NDSU finished with 294 yards rushing and 464 yards of total offense.
Paschall, who had 117 yards by halftime, recorded his ninth 100-yard rushing effort this season and the 13th of his career. He scored on runs if 29, 43 and 2 yards in the first half and added a 4-yard score in the third quarter
Paschall's four rushing TDs are the most by a Bison player since Tyler Roehl rumbled for four scores against Illinois State in 2007. The school single-game record is five rushing TDs set by three players on four occasions -- the last by Kevin Feeney against Minnesota State, Mankato in 1996.
Paschall moved to No. 11 on the North Dakota State all-time rushing charts past Paul Hatchett (2,309, 1967-69) and Mark Speral (2,264, 1977-80). Paschall has rushed 180 times for 1,257 yards for an average of 139.7 yards per game this season. He has rushed 372 times for 2,388 yards and 20 TDs in 28 career games.
Sophomore linebacker Preston Evans had 13 tackles. It was the fourth time this season Evans has recorded double-figures in tackles. The Bison starting linebackers were busy with 28 overall as freshman Brandon Jemison (9) and senior Fred Bussey (6) each contributed.
The North Dakota State defense picked up the pace in the second half and limited Indiana State (1-10, 1-7 Valley Football) to 67 yards of total offense including 21 yards rushing.
The Sycamores had 273 yards overall including 206 in the first half led by Antoine Brown, who rushed 23 times for 111 yards including a 42-yard TD run to close the NDSU lead to 21-17 with 3:51 left in the second quarter. Brown also caught six passes for 35 yards.
Redshirt freshman Jose Mohler and the Bison answered quickly on a nifty five play, 67 yard drive. Mohler found tight end Matt Veldman in the end zone with 56-seconds left to cap the drive. Mohler completed 10 of 12 passes to seven different receivers for 170 yards and scrambled twice for 31 yards.
Sophomore Matt Voigtlander was Mohler's favorite target. Voigtlander caught four passes for 70 yards including a 15-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter. Voightlander also rushed five times for 46 yards. Freshman Sam Ojuri had 12 carries for 48 yards and a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Redshirt freshman Brock Gion blocked a punt and Kevin Jackson scooped the ball and scored from four yards out with 12:23 remaining in the third quarter. It was NDSU's fourth blocked punt and fifth kick overall this season.
D.J. McNorton reeled off 128 return yards on three punt returns and a kickoff return including a career long 66 yard punt return. His previous best was a 62-yarder against Western Illinois. McNorton also rushed four times for 29 yards and caught one pass for 29 yards. Shamen Washington returned a pair of kickoffs for 64 yards.
Indiana State quarterback Ryan Roberts completed 13 of 23 passes for 119 yards and scored on a 1-yard run. Aaron Archie recorded a game-high 16 tackles, while Alex Sewall had 10 tackles for the Sycamores.
