
Hodgson, North Dakota State Outlast Northern Arizona 66-56

FARGO, N.D.--Inger Hodgson scored 16 points including a career-high 7 of 7 from the free throw line as North Dakota State outlasted Northern Arizona 66-56 in a women's college basketball game played Monday, Dec. 21, before 890 spectators in the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (7-5, 2-0 Summit League) is scheduled to play Creighton University (5-4, 0-0 Missouri Valley) at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, in Ryan Athletic Center & D.J. Sokol Arena at Omaha. The Blue Jays are 4-1 at home this season.
The Bison, who led 26-18 at halftime, widened the lead to 11 points four minutes into the second half after Hodgson found Katie Birkel inside for a layup. Hodgson added five rebounds and three assists.
However, the Lumberjacks (2-10) cut the deficit to 41-37 with 11:32 remaining on Tyler Stephens-Jenkins layup. Northern Arizona was sparked by Amy Patton, who scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second half.
Patton and Hodgson were the only players scoring in double-figures. NDSU did have 10 of 11 players who entered the game score.
North Dakota State built the lead up on three-pointers, a pair from the arc from Hannah Linz and a conventional layup and free throw from Hodgson to keep NAU at a distance down the stretch.
NDSU hit 8 of 11 free throws in the final 3:21 as Katie Birkel, Whitney Trecker, Abby Plucker and Hodgson each toed the stripe. The Bison were 22 of 31 overall for 71 percent compared to the Lumberjacks 13 of 18 for 72.2 percent.
Northern Arizona hit only 30.6 percent from the field but held a 42-35 advantage on the glass. Jenna Galloway had a game-high nine rebounds for the Lumberjacks, while Plucker and Birkel each snared seven for NDSU. The Bison hit 43.5 percent from the field.
