
Wisconsin Native Leads North Dakota State Past Milwaukee, 77-69

MILWAUKEE--Madison native Mike Nelson scored a game- and season-high 22 points to lead North Dakota State to a 77-69 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in an ESPNU BracketBusters game Saturday, Feb. 21, at U.S. Cellular Arena.
It was the sixth straight road victory for North Dakota State, which improved to 21-6 overall. Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to 15-12 and had a six-game home winning streak snapped.
Nelson had eight of NDSU's first 12 points. He made a season-high six first-half field goals and had a game-high 12 points at halftime to give the Bison a 34-31 lead.
North Dakota State started the second half on a 10-0 run and led by as many as 13 points with 16:20 left in the game when a Brett Winkelman basket made it 46-33.
Milwaukee responded with eight straight points, but the Panthers were no closer than five the rest of the way.
NDSU shot 52.5 percent compared to 36.8 percent for Milwaukee. The Panthers were 6-for-29 from the 3-point line.
North Dakota State guard Ben Woodside completed his fifth career double-double with 12 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Winkelman finished with 15 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Ricky Franklin had 14 points and James Eayrs added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Milwaukee. Avery Smith and Deonte scored 11 points and Tone Boyle scored 10.
North Dakota State is on the road for its final two regular-season games next week at Centenary on Thursday, Feb. 26, and at Oral Roberts on Saturday, Feb. 28.
