Box Score FARGO, N.D.--Centenary completed a four-game sweep of North Dakota State with an 11-2 victory in Summit League baseball Sunday, May 3, at Newman Outdoor Field.
It was the eighth straight win for Centenary, which improved to 31-11 overall and 14-5 in The Summit League. North Dakota State lost its fifth straight game to drop to 12-24 overall and 6-11 in the league.
The Gents scored in each of the first four innings and led 6-0 before the Bison scored single runs in the fourth and fifth. NDSU designated hitter Zach Wentz scored on an infield error and drove in Kenny Beese with a single the next inning.
Wentz finished 3-for-4 at the plate but was the losing pitcher in 6 2/3 innings of work. He allowed 11 runs on 12 hits with five walks and five strikeouts to drop to 2-2 on the year.
First baseman Zach Heidmann and catcher Justin Kline both hit 2-for-4 for the Bison, who had 10 hits but left 12 runners on base.
Centenary second baseman Tim Deering and third baseman Morgan Brian each had two hits and two RBIs. Brian's solo home run in the fourth inning was his third homer of the season.
Gents center fielder Jomar Tabor was 3-for-4, shortstop Ricky Imperiali was 2-for-5, and left fielder Travis Leversen was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Centenary right-hander Boone Whiting pitched eight innings for the win to improve to 5-2. Whiting allowed one earned run on nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Minnesota at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Siebert Field in Minneapolis.
