Box Score FARGO, N.D.--Dominique Morrison made four free throws in the final eight seconds to help Oral Roberts hold off North Dakota State for a 65-59 win in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Jan. 2, before a crowd of 2,758 at the Bison Sports Arena.
Kevin Ford had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (8-7, 3-1), who snapped a five-game road losing streak and won in Fargo for the first time in four visits.
Michael Craion added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Ken Holdman scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half for ORU, which shot 35 percent and had a 44-39 rebounding advantage.
North Dakota State (5-8, 2-2) got a game-high 19 points from Eric Carlson, 17 from Josh Vaughan, 10 from Michael Tveidt, and nine from Austin Pennick. The Bison shot 36 percent.
Oral Roberts led by as many as 11 points twice in the second half, but Vaughan made a pair of key 3-pointers on a 17-5 NDSU run midway through the period and the Bison went ahead 48-47 on Carlson's hook shot inside seven minutes to play.
The Golden Eagles went more than eight minutes without a field goal before Craion's putback jumper with 5:04 left in the game put ORU ahead 51-50.
Tveidt put NDSU ahead 52-51 before Morrison's layup capped an 8-0 ORU run that made it 59-52 with 1:28 to play.
Vaughan's layup and a pair of free throws after ORU missed two foul shots got NDSU within 60-59. Ford made 1 of 2 free throws to make it a two-point game, and the Bison missed a chance to tie it with 10 seconds left.
Morrison's two free throws with 8.2 seconds left made it 63-59 and the Bison missed a 3-pointer on their final offensive possession.
ORU was 22-for-33 from the free-throw line compared to NDSU's 12-for-20.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play Southern Utah at 7 p.m. MT on Thursday, Jan. 7, in Cedar City, Utah. The Thunderbirds are 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the league after a 53-50 loss at UMKC on Saturday.
