Box Score

BROOKINGS, S.D. - TrayVonn Wright had 15 points and 15 rebounds off the bench to lead North Dakota State to an 82-75 win over South Dakota State in the Summit League men's basketball opener for both teams Saturday, Dec. 4, before a crowd of 5,547 at Frost Arena.

It was the ninth straight win in the series for North Dakota State, which improved to 5-3 overall.  South Dakota State, ranked 17th in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, fell to 6-1 on the year.

Wright's 15 rebounds were the most by an NDSU player since February 2008 when Brett Winkelman hauled in 15 boards in a home win over Western Illinois.  He also blocked three shots.

North Dakota State converted 25 offensive rebounds (nine of them by Wright) into 28 second-chance points and the Bison had a 55-37 advantage on the glass.

Four other players scored in double figures for NDSU, which shot 45.8 percent from the floor.  Eric Carlson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, South Dakota native Michael Tveidt scored 13 points, Nate Zastrow had 12 off the bench, and Marshall Bjorklund scored 11.

South Dakota State got 36 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals from sophomore guard Nate Wolters, who made four 3-pointers and was 12 of 25 from the field overall.  He played a game-high 38 minutes.

Clint Sargent added 11 points and Tony Fiegen had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Jackrabbits, who shot 36.6 percent from the floor.

SDSU entered the week ranked first in the nation in 3-point shooting at almost 50 percent.  The Jacks were just 7 of 27 against NDSU for 25.9 percent, including four misses in the final 25 seconds.

South Dakota State scored the first seven points of the game before North Dakota State answered with a 15-2 run to go ahead.  The Jacks missed nine straight field goals and went scoreless for 4 1/2 minutes during that stretch.

The Bison led by as many as 11 points late in the first half and it was 37-28 at halftime.

SDSU came back to force three ties before going ahead 53-51 on a fast-break dunk by Dale Moss with 10:48 to play.  NDSU answered with a put-back dunk by Wright on the next possession and stretched that into a 12-3 run to go ahead for good.

Wolters made a pair of free throws with 4:14 left in the game to pull the Jacks within 70-67, but Tveidt scored back-to-back layups for the Bison and it was at least a two-possession game the rest of the way.

NDSU made 4 of 6 free throws in the final minute to help seal the game.
